The first solo painting exhibition of the courageous and talented artist Shabekun Nahar Noushin is going on at Alliance Française de Dhaka’s Galerie Zoom.
The exhibition is open for all and visiting hours: are Mondays to Thursdays from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, Fridays and Saturdays (9:00am to12:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm). The exhibition will remain close on Sundays.
The gifted 22 year old has named her display “The Silent Word,” so that people could relate her work to her real situation.Noushin can neither speak nor hear anything around her, but her love and devotion for life lead her to capture the beauty around her.
She endeavours to break her silence by expressing strong emotions through bold colours on canvas.
The 15 watercolour paintings on display are very contemporary in nature and are influenced by mythology, nature and beauty in general. Some of her works knit the urban and rural life by using similar colours to portray both the scenarios on the same piece of artwork. Her works emanate a unique quality that sets it apart from other contemporary artworks.
The absence of the little things we take for granted in life has enabled her to express her innermost strength and emotions through a wonderful array of vibrant colours on canvas.
According to Noushin’s sister Nowrin, many of her works are inspired by the art maestro Pablo Picasso’s early works. Her sister further states that Noushin follows Picasso’s cubism style that can be seen in many of her artworks.
Noushin started her artistic endeavors at the age of 18 and has completed four years certificate course in Arts and Crafts from Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts in 2011.
She was inspired to take up art by her grandfather who was an art teacher. It was her mother’s dream to exhibit her artworks, so she encouraged Noushin to begin the artistic journey.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Olivier Litvine, director, Alliance Française de Dhaka and Nasreen Begum, Department of Oriental Art, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka.
In the inaugural ceremony, Olivier Litvine described Noushin as a naturally gifted artist and expressed his optimism that the success of this exhibition will inspire her to continue her artistic enterprise. The exhibition will continue till November 7.
