Today: Let's do brunch, literary style

Update : 18 Oct 2015, 11:51 AM

Saturday Morning Literary Brunches at Red Shift Book Cafe are a welcome addition to the Dhaka cultural scene. Every week, notable local figures in literature and art conduct workshops or showcase their latest work in these lively and stimulating sessions.

Today you can catch a poetry reading by Kaiser Huq and Sabahat Jahan at 11am.

Each session is preceded by a reading hour for toddlers led by Ambreen Miraly, making these brunches an affair for literature lovers of all ages and sizes, at 10am.

Kaiser Huq's quirky style and intense attention to local detail make his poems come alive. As a master of recitation, an opportunity to hear him in person is not to be missed. Sabahat Jahan's intimate and evocative poetry has earned her an ever growing number of followers. She released her second volume of poetry called "Hands Full of Nothing" this year.

Both writers are also participating in the Dhaka Lit Fest at Bangla Academy in November

The literary brunches have even conducted story creation workshops just for children, led by author and main organiser Shazia Omar, Shazly Omar and children's book author Sanjana Sadique. Each session saw the budding writers devote their attention to crafting short, intriguing stories, with many of the young participants choosing to read out their work to the audience either by themselves or with the help of the workshop leader.

Red Shift is located at Bay Galleria, 5th Floor, 57 Gulshan Avenue, Gulshan. Enjoy a special menu for Tk200 or a full brunch for Tk600.
