The Powder Room

This year, Eid will fall at the height of summer, which is wonderful, but melting makeup, smeared eyeliner, and super-sticky lipstick are not the things that we're looking for this season. So, Avenue t has put together some essential tips and tricks that can help you add that extra sparkle to your Eid makeup this year!

Prepare your skin

Skincare should be the primary concern when it comes to creating a flawless look. The right face wash, depending on your skin type, will get rid of the dirt accumulated on the face during the day and is pretty much the most important step of skincare.

Exfoliation will help remove dead cells and let your inner glow shine through. Sunscreen is mandatory during the day. A sheer, lightweight formula will keep you protected all day long.

Next up is moisturizing. Even though it is rather humid and the skin gets oily very easily, keeping your skin hydrated is important.

Start with the proper base

Apply a primer as the first step of your base makeup. After you moisturize, spread on a light primer with silica, which has a filling effect. Then, choose a liquid foundation with silicone.

Avoid luminous or matte ones – they make the skin appear either too moist or too flat to be natural. Instead, look for the foundations which are lightweight, sheer or invisible. Use two fingers or a damp beauty blender to spread the foundation sparingly over your forehead, down your nose, across your cheeks, over your chin, and along the sides of your face. Always blend down or sideways, never up!

Powder it up

Take some loose powder on a big fluffy brush and pat the excess off. Make sure you are not taking too much powder on the brush. Tap off excess and dust powder where you tend to get shiny.

Give your eye shadow staying power

For longer-lasting shadow, avoid using eye cream on your lids as it can break down makeup, and smooth on an eye primer instead. It will minimize creasing and create a base for the shadow to cling to so it lasts longer. For all-day wearability, layer powder over cream.

Doubling up works for liner too. Apply your regular pencil or cream liner, and then use a small angled brush to press dark shadow over the liner to make it last longer. A cat-eye or full-blown winged out flick coupled with long, fluttery lashes look very stylish and is perfect for the day.

Amp up your lips

For lips this year, bright, bold shades are all the rage. Juicy, berry shades that are soft and gentle look chic and sophisticated, while corals and bright, orangey reds look sweet and summery. Soft yet strong pinks are also in – look for matte textures instead of gloss.

Bling up this Eid with your perfectly styled hair. The messy bun is adored by women around the world – the more volume you have for this hairstyle the better it will look.

How to get the look:

Flip your hair upside down and then stand up straight again. You will have instantly created more volume and have given the illusion of thickness, but also apply some mousse towards the end and tease your hair with a comb at the crown in short, small motions – this is very important for a style which will hold.

Flip your hair upside down again, gather all of it and tie it up at the top of your head. If you have any flyaway hair or loose strands, it’ll add to the look so there’s no need to smooth these over.
