The prayer takes place each Saturday and Tuesday of the last half of Kartik in Loknath Babar Ashram at Baradi or in Sri Sri Loknath Mandir at Swamibag. This ceremony is called Rakher Upavas which is also known as the festival of lights as its ritual incorporates the lighting of many candles along with earthen fire-lamps. The whole temple dazzles in lights and vibrates with the rhythmic chanting of the slokas as the sunlight begins to dim in the evening. The devotees who take part in these prayers have to maintain self-restraint the day before and have to fast on the day of chanting and taking oaths. Each of them gathers the praying props which consist of lamps, candles, flowers and fruits, betel leaves, meadow grass kept on a spread banana leaf. Each devotee lights up earthen lamps according to the number of the persons they are wishing for. The prayer ends as the lamp goes out by itself.
