5 beauty trends that'll make headlines in 2018

Update : 21 Feb 2018, 04:06 PM
2017 had a lot going for it, 2018 has a lot to live up to. If you’re tempted to try out a new do or beauty regimen, take a cue from our latest scoop on this year’s trending skin and haircare tips.Glass skinThe “glass skin” trend, popularised by K-beauty is taking the world by storm—it's just the idea of having skin that looks strangely translucent. This year, skincare products that will promote glowing, moisturised, exfoliated skin will be big. While our holy-grail picks include an oldie from Skinfood, the very impressive Black Sugar Wash Off Mask for exfoliation, and Cosrx Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream as a great moisturiser, that will both deliver and help achieve clear, dewy skin, we are yet to see what new products are in store this year. The aforesaid products are available at most Korean beauty shops in Dhanmondi.Simplified regimenLast year saw a plethora of innovative beauty products, or rather ideas, that were initially introduced a few years ago but were later popularised—skin water, ampoules, overnighters and what not. That being said, 2018 is heading towards a more simplified skincare regimen. We're talking about multitasking, multipurpose skincare products such as Clinique Take the Day off Cleansing Balm, that will cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin all at once. It can be ordered online from Amazon. Adios 10-step skincare routine.HaircareMoving on to haircare, this year, it will be particularly easy for one to ditch the tiring ordeal of shampoo-rinse-condition-rinse regimen. How? Enter oil blotters. They will take care of your greasy scalp. Antifrizz wipes are something to look out for as well, if you have natural waves or curls. Grow them outThe short bob fever is still going around, but you may consider growing them out into shaggy bobs this year. They are low-maintenance, flirty and playful. And with that extra bit of length at your disposal, whether you wear yours straight or in beachy waves, you have more styling options to go for.Au naturel or experimentalAs for the colours, the options are endless. Taking the simpler route to your natural hair colour, or may be playing it safe with some soft pastels is what this year’s trend forecasting is looking at. On the other extreme end of the spectrum, there are golden ombre, chocolate mauve, jewel tones and galaxy hair, which will possibly blow up your instafeed in the upcoming months. Not to be confused with unicorn hair, galactic hair colours are more on the darker shades.Food for thought: Did you know that K-beauty actually originated from J-beauty? Korea is just a quick thinker and invested more in beauty R&D before Japan could. But with Japan's recovering economy, they’ll soon catch up.
