The Prime Minister's Office has given its consent to shifting the iconic structure further north to accommodate the scissor crossing of the metro rail tracks. The move would mean dismantling the structure and erecting a similar one in the new location. The Kamalapur Railway Station has stood east of the city’s Motijheel district since 1968. Describing it as an invaluable piece of cultural heritage, architects and urban experts demanded carrying out any expansion of metro rail keeping the unique structure intact in its current position
