Two arrested for making adulterated baby food and drinks

Detectives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Lalbagh division have arrested two people from the capital's Kamrangirchar on charges of making adulterated baby food and drinks.
The arrested are Md Shahjalal and Md Rashed. They were apprehended from a house in Khalifa Ghat Kazi Bari Galli Road area of Kamrangirchar on Thursday evening.
The raid was led by the Lalbagh DB’s arms recovery and anti-drug unit.
Assistant Police Commissioner Fazlur Rahman said on Friday that the men were making and selling baby food containing chemicals without legal documents, professional chemists and proper laboratory facilities.

Police seized mango fruit drinks (ice lolly) named “Sumaiya Frutila”, mango shaped plastic bottles and different types of chemicals.
Fazlur Rahman also said: "The culprits used to produce adulterated baby food and beverages under different names, and sold them in various locations of the capital and other districts. Consumption of these food items may result in serious and prolonged health effects, especially for the children.”
A case was filed against the duo under the Special Powers Act with Kamrangirchar police station.
