Another 681 patients recover from the infectious disease
Bangladesh has registered 569 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally so far to 527,632.
The death toll climbed to 7,906 after 23 fatalities were recorded in a 24-hour time frame until Sunday morning, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a press release.
Another 681 patients recovered from Covid-19 through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the total recovery count to 472,437.
Of the 23 deceased — 16 men and seven women — 16 were from Dhaka division, two from Mymensingh, and one each from Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Rangpur divisions.
All of them breathed their last while undergoing treatment at different hospitals across the country.
So far, 5,992 men (75.79%) and 1,914 women (24.21%) have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected currently stands at 1.50%.
The DGHS said a total of 13,553 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the 24-hour time frame.
As many as 13,446 samples, including some pending ones, were tested at the 199 authorized labs — government and private — across the country.
The latest figures showed a test positivity rate of 4.23%.
To date, 3,457,453 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall test positivity rate of 15.26%.
Up to this point, 472,437 patients — 89.54% of all infected — have recovered from Covid-19 in the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 2,032,000 lives and infected as many as 95,024,000 people across the world till Sunday afternoon, according to worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.
As many as 67,847,000 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has affected 220 countries and territories across the planet.
