Total 2,839 doctors have contracted the virus so far across the country, says BMA
Three more doctors have died from Covid-19 in the country, taking the tally to a grim 100 mark.
According to Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), the three deceased are Dr Ramesh Chandra Nath, former director of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal; Dr Md Khalil Uddin, medical officer of Moulvibazar Diabetes Association Hospital; and Dr Kausar Ahmned Majumder, deputy chief medical officer of Chittagong Port Hospital.
Ramesh was 78, while both Khalil and Kausar were 52.
Khalil died at United Hospital in Dhaka at 1:30pm on Wednesday and Ramesh at the ICU of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital at 3am.
Kausar passed away at a private hospital in Chittagong on Tuesday evening.
Till date, total 2,839 doctors contracted the virus across the country, with Dhaka registering 816 cases alone, said BMA.
Two of the 100 deceased doctors were dental surgeons.
Moreover, some 1,958 nurses and 3,261 other health professionals have been diagnosed with Covid-19.
Till Wednesday, Bangladesh saw a total of 382,959 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 5,593 deaths from the disease.
While the country first saw the Covid-19 death on March 18, the first death of a doctor from the disease was reported on April 15.
