The death toll for Bangladesh Police stands at 53
Two policemen and an Ansar member have died of the Covid-19 infection.
With these deaths, the Coronavirus death toll for Bangladesh Police stands at 53.
The deceased policemen are Constable Md Sirajul Islam, of Trishal upazila under Mymensingh district, who served at Uttara division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and Constable Chotan Deb, of Batajuri village under Chandnaish upazila of Chittagong, who served with Cox's Bazar district police.
Both of them breathed their last at Central Police Hospital at Rajarbagh on Thursday morning, according to a press release by police headquarters.
Sirajul joined the police force on January 10, 1994, while Chotan joined the force on August 14, 2011.
Sirajul is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. While, Chotan is survived by his wife, and a 14-month-old daughter.
One more Ansar member dies
Another Ansar member died of Covid-19 on July 11.
Four members, including one officer, died in the force from the virus till date.
The deceased is Assistant District Commandant of Bagerhat Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, of Baghiya village under Kotwali police station of Barisal, who died with coronavirus-like symptoms on July 11.
His samples were collected and sent for testing and his results came out positive on Thursday.
Mehnaz Tabassum Rabin, deputy director of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
She also said that Mizan joined the force as Circle Adjutant on January 10, 2005. He was promoted to Assistant Director (AD) on August 19, 2019.
Mizan is survived by his wife, son, and relatives to mourn his death.
He was laid to rest in his village graveyard, she added.
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP’s Director General (DG) Major General Kazi Sharif Kaikobad expressed grief over the death of Mizan.
According to Police HQ, 53 policemen died with Covid-19 infection till date.
Meanwhile, 13,243 police members have been infected with the coronavirus so far. Among them 2,479 police members are with Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP).
On the other hand, 14,273 police are in house and institutional quarantine, while 4,928 are in isolation.
At least 9,955 police members had recovered from Covid-19, and most of them rejoined work.
