Liberation War Affairs Minister’s wife dies of Covid-19

Her namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayers today on the open ground adjacent to Gazipur City Corporation Graveyard

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque’s wife Laila Arjumand Banu has passed away at the age of 71 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) while undergoing treatment for Covid-19.

She breathed her last at 7:45am on Monday. 

 “The minister and his wife were admitted to CMH on June 13. Although Minister Mozammel recovered and returned home, Laila Arjumand was still undergoing treatment for her serious condition,” said Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, senior public relations officer of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. 

Her namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayers today on the open ground adjacent to Gazipur City Corporation Graveyard.

Laila Arjumand Banu was born to an aristocratic Muslim family in January 1949 in Gazipur. She got married to AKM Mozammel Haque on April 16, 1974.  

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, a son, six grand sons and daughters, as well as a host of relatives and admirers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Mozammel's other cabinet colleagues have mourned Laila's death in separate messages.
