A total of 782 officials of Bangladesh Police have so far successfully recovered from Covid-19.
In a press release on Saturday, Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (AIG-media) at Bangladesh Police Headquarters, said many who recovered have already resumed regular work.
The press release also said that in the last 24 hours, 121 policemen recovered from the deadly infection. They were discharged from Rajarbag Central Police Hospital on Friday afternoon after their second Covid-19 test came negative.
At present, 3,574 policemen have been identified as Covid-19 positive.
Of those who have tested positive for the deadly virus, 481 are assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), 386 are sub-inspectors (SI), 97 are inspectors, 20 are assistant superintends of police (ASP), 19 are additional superintends of police (Additional SP), eight are superintends of police (SP), and one is a deputy inspector general (DIG) of Bangladesh Police.
So far, 12 policemen have died of coronavirus, including Md Mosarraf Hossain, 57, who passed away at Rajshahi Christian Mission Hospital on Friday night.
“Police headquarters has made arrangements at multiple private hospitals with adequate modern facilities in Dhaka and other divisional cities, along with Central Police Hospital. This has helped infected police personnel to recover quickly,” according to the press release.
A special team has also been formed to attend to Covid-19 positive police personnel, as per the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the press release added.
