He served in the coronavirus cell of the ministry
Sharif Mahmood Apu, Information and Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Home Affairs, tested positive for both Covid-19 and dengue.
He confirmed this with a Facebook post on Thursday.
Sharif is now under treatment at home in isolation.
In his post, Sharif said: “God has never let me lose in any struggle. Of course, the prayers of the people have played a major role in this. This time I have to fight both the coronavirus and dengue, together.
“God knows what will be the outcome. However, I will never give up. I have to live for my two children and for the people.”
Sharif said four days ago, he started to feel sick with symptoms like fever. He moved to a separate room in his house and remained in isolation.
After he contacted authorities for coronavirus testing, his sample was collected and the report came out positive on Thursday. Earlier, he tested positive for dengue.
Sharif said the home minister has been doing office almost everyday in this Covid-19 pandemic. Alongside working with the minister, Sharif also had to serve in the coronavirus cell of the ministry.
He also distributed relief and Eid gifts at his village home in Burichang upazila of Comilla. In the midst of all this, coronavirus finally caught up with him in the end, he added.
Upon doctor’s advice, he is being treated at home in isolation. He has asked everyone to pray for him, so he can recover quickly and perform his duties again.
