Coronavirus: Global daily death toll holding steady

Till now, the number of active cases stands at 2,517,920

The world saw a minor downward trend of new daily deaths from the coronavirus for the second consecutive day since May 12.

Daily death toll around the world from the coronavirus declined to 5,317 on Thursday, while the total number of deaths surpassed the grim 300,000-mark, climbing to 303,082.

Thursday’s death toll is three less than that of the previous day, which was 5,314.

A week ago, on May 7, the number of new deaths worldwide was 5,589  and a week before that on April 30, it was 5,795.

According to Worldometers, a total of 303,416 individuals have died so far from the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic as of Friday, May 15, 2020. There are currently 4,527,165 confirmed cases across 213 countries and regions.

Till now, the number of active cases stands at 2,517,920.

Of the active cases 2,517,909 (100%) were identified to be in mild condition while some 45,557 (2%) can be marked as serious or critical.

At the same time, 1,705,829 people from across the world have recovered fully from the infection or were discharged from treatment – which was 85% of cases which had an outcome.

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 303,416 lives since its discovery in December 2019 – which was 15% of cases which had an outcome.

In January, China effectively shut down Wuhan and placed its 11 million residents in effective quarantine after the novel coronavirus infection turned into outbreak.

The virus is thought to have emerged late last year in a Wuhan market illegally trading wildlife. It can cause pneumonia, respiratory diseases, among others, and spreads between people in droplets from coughs and sneezes.

Till now, coronavirus or Covid-19 has affected 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
