So far a total of five policemen have died from Covid-19 across the country
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has instructed to set up disinfectant tunnels at the gates of each police station to stop the spread of coronavirus.
This initiative has been undertaken to protect the police personnel working at the different stations in Dhaka as well to ensure the safety of those who come to seek police service.
Following which, disinfected tunnels have already been installed in a number of police stations in Dhaka including Kafrul police station.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
“This step of ours has instilled peace among the policemen working tirelessly amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
According to sources, out of all those who have so far tested positive for the virus across the country, at least 10% are police personnel.
Masud said: “As front line workers, the police have been playing a multifaceted role, working on the field, for the welfare of the country’s people since the outbreak began.
“I urge people to be aware and follow proper hygiene rules to stay safe from coronavirus. Keep yourself safe, and your family safe. DMP is by your side in any need.”
So far a total of five policemen have died from Covid-19 across the country while working at the frontlines of the pandemic.
As of Wednesday, Bangladesh confirmed 11,719 coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 186 after three new fatalities were reported.
Till now, the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 259,000 lives and infected over 3,757,000 people globally, according to Worldometer.
As many as 1,258,552 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 210 countries and territories across the world.
