Kaan Pete Roi, with the help of SAJIDA Foundation, has expanded its operating hours to provide emergency tele-counselling support for citizens experiencing distress, frustration and stress caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
From now onwards, Kaan Pete Roi’s helpline numbers -- 01779554391-2, 01688709965-6, 01985275286, 01852035634, and 01517969150 -- will be open every day from 3pm to 3am along with available Whatsapp lines.
A press release was issued in this regard by Kaan Pete Roi, Bangladesh’s first emotional support and suicide prevention helpline, on Thursday.
“This service is completely free of charge. The mission of this helpline is to alleviate feelings of despair, isolation, distress, and suicidal feelings. Kaan Pete Roi accomplishes this through confidential, compassionate, and open-minded listening.
“Such helplines exist in over 42 countries worldwide and play an important role in suicide prevention and the promotion of mental health. Kaan Pete Roi is the first of its kind in Bangladesh,” read the release.
Zahida Fizza Kabir, chief executive officer of SAJIDA Foundation, said: “We at SAJIDA Foundation are glad to be able to help Kaan Pete Roi help others. It’s important to make mental health services as accessible as possible during a crisis, so that those who are vulnerable are able to seek help easily”.
Echoing the same, Dr Yeshim Iqbal, founder and director of Kaan Pete Roi, said: “Being open late at night, and the availability of Whatsapp, is extremely important while people are stuck in their homes due to Covid-19.
“SAJIDA Foundation’s support in this time has made it possible for us to respond to meet public mental health needs.”
