These infections add to the growing crisis of doctors getting infected by Covid-19 across the country

Three people including two doctors and a medical student, have tested positive for coronavirus at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barisal.

Dr. Bakir Hossain, director of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, confirmed the results, adding that the corona isolation unit of the hospital had 23 patients under treatment, five of whom have tested positive, till the time of reporting, on Saturday.

The infected medical student had returned to Barisal 2 days earlier after visiting Comilla, and the two infected doctors are spouses who were on duty at Agailjhara Upaziala Health Complex and Bakal Union Sub-center, said the hospital director.

He added that samples collected from a 72-year old patient of Betagi upazila of Barguna, who died on Friday night at SBMCH corona isolation unit, also tested positive.

Dr. Bakhtiar Al-Mamun, Agoiljhara upazila health and family welfare officer, said the female doctor of Bakal Union Sub-center of the upazila was first infected with the virus, which then spread to her husband, a doctor at the Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex.
