USAID’s MaMoni MNCSP project launched in Manikganj

The project is providing a comprehensive package of services, including normal delivery care 24/7 in 6 districts.

United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID), MaMoni Maternal and Newborn Care Strengthening (MNCSP) project, on Saturday, launched its services in Manikganj district.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOH&FW), Bangladesh government with support from USAID’s MaMoni (MNCSP) hosted the launching event at Proshika HRDC in Koitta, Manikganj.

Speaking as chief guest, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Zahid Maleque, highlighted the importance of improving facility-based services for mothers and newborns, and called for greater attention to ensuring quality services in all public and private health care facilities.

During his speech, USAID Bangladesh Mission Director, Derrick Brown, spoke on how the MaMoni project is focusing on improved quality of care approaches.

Mark Pierce, country director of Save the Children in Bangladesh highlighted the importance of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

The project focuses on strengthening the systems and standards for maternal, newborn, child health, family planning, and nutrition, that would result in declines in maternal, newborn, and child mortality.

Currently, in six districts, health facilities under the project is providing a comprehensive package of services, including normal delivery care on a round-the-clock basis.

A total of 106 out of 246 health facilities, including 75 union health and family welfare centres, are providing 24/7 delivery services.
