Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), a development organization of Japan, will provide Taka 703 crore to improve services of medical colleges and hospitals at eight divisions of the country.
An agreement, to this end, was signed at the Health Ministry in the Secretariat on Sunday. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek was present as the chief guest, reports BSS.
Project Director of "Children and Mother Health and Development of Health Care" Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman and General Manager of the Dhaka office of Oriental Consultations Global Company Ltd, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Under the project, Jica will develop the imaging systems of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Barisal, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Chittagong, Khulna and Rangpur Medical College and Hospitals.
The project has been passed in the Ecnec, the state minister said.
"We hope the activities of the imaging system will be completed by 2021," he said. "Of the total budget of Tk900 crore, Jica will provide Tk703, and the government will provide the rest of the Tk197 crore."
A kidney centre and a cancer centre with 100-150 beds will be set up at every divisional city, he added.
