The family and friends of Sohagi Jahan Tonu have been interrogated again by the CID, which is yet to make any significant progress in its investigation.
Tonu’s elder brother Nazmul Hossain, cousin Laizu Jahan, friend Manisha, and cantonment board staff Ismail Hossain were brought in for questioning at the Comilla Criminal Investigation Department office, where they were kept between 8:30am and 11am yesterday.
Laizu told law enforcers that Tonu had been harassed over mobile phone by someone named Pial. The CID team visited the Mainamati Cantonment later in the day.
Tonu’s father Yaar Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that the investigating team was often fetching them to ask the same questions, but never giving them any update about the case.
Tonu’s brother and cousin were asked the same questions as before when they went to the CID yesterday, Yaar said, adding that such line of questioning is making him concerned about the outcome of the probe.
Earlier this month, the CID team led by Special Superintendent of Police Abdul Kahar Akond inspected the place where Tonu’s body was found and interrogated Tonu’s parents, the examining doctor, nurses and several others.
On Thursday, the probe team, along with Comilla CID, interrogated five army personnel from the Mainamati Cantonment.
Comilla zone SSP Nazmul Karim Khan said they were trying to figure out which army men were on duty on the day of the murder near the place where Tonu’s body was found. He said several others will also be questioned.
Tonu, a second-year student of Comilla Victoria Government College, was found dead near her home inside the cantonment on March 20.
