Tamim feels good to become highest scorer

Update : 05 Apr 2016, 08:10 PM
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has become the highest run scorer in the recently concluded ICC World Twenty 20 with 295 runs at a staggering average of 73.75 including a century in six games. The dashing left-hander has been in superb form in the recent past. The Chittagong lad became the first Bangladeshi to smash a hundred in the shortest format of the game and scored an unbeaten 103 off just 63 balls against Oman which was also the highest individual score of the tournament with West Indies hard hitter Chris Gayle behind him with exactly 100 runs. And Tamim’s Pakistan Super League franchisee Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi has announced a reward of five thousand dollars to him for becoming the highest run scorer of the World T20. “Obviously it feels really good to become the highest run scorer of a flagship event like T20 World Championship. However I would have been happier if Bangladesh as a team performed well in the tournament,” said Tamim to Dhaka Tribune yesterday. Stylish Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who was 22 runs behind Tamim with 273 runs in five matches, was judged the man of the series. Tamim informed that he never thought of getting the award. “Actually no. I was not expecting the man of the series award as I knew there were few other players who also performed exceptionally well in the tournament. And I think I could perform much better in the tournament especially against India where I should have played a big knock,” he said. The swashbuckling southpaw also struck highest 14 sixes in the World T20 when he smashed five sixes against Oman in the qualifying round. Meanwhile Tamim informed that he wanted England to win the tournament. However he said that the West Indies was the more deserving side to clinch the title. “Though I did not support any team but I wanted England to win the final. However I think West Indies were the deserving side to become the champion of the World T20,” added Tamim.
