Tech billionaire and visionary Elon Musk frequently warns about the impending rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and the threat they can be for mankind. For those who compared Elon’s cautionary statements to Terminator, well, reality check, AI is here to stay and beat the hell out of our best gamers. Dota 2, the sequel to one of the cornerstone games of esports, saw the threat manifest in the form of a bot face-off against one of the top players in the world. The AI bot OpenAI was designed by a firm which was sponsored by big names in tech – Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Sam Altman among many others. The AI wrecked, yes, wrecked the challenger Danil "Dendi" Ishutin in the first two games in a best-of-five challenge. Dendi forfeited the other three matches, saying he was confident of losing against this unimaginable horror. A bot that thinks smart, evolves with every match and can predict things it has never experienced is probably not an opponent any gamer would like to face. But Elon seems to have been right. The AI are rising. First they beat us at our games, then they take our jerbs (South Park reference), then they take our lives!
