State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Wednesday said the price of internet will be reduced very soon.
The junior minister came up with the remarks while addressing the media at her secretariat after a meeting with the telecom operators over pricing of internet.
“Internet will be available at much more affordable rates within the next six months,” said Tarana.
She said: “I will make sure that the price of internet is lowered, and for this, VAT, tax and revenues associated with the internet need to be reduced as well. I will write to finance minister soon.”
Representatives of various mobile operators including IIV, ITC, BSCCL and ISPS were present at the meeting.
“I wanted to know the price gap between wholesale and end-user levels. They replied that there is a confusion while considering the price based on wholesale price.”
“I told them that mobile operators will have to clear the issue and convince the subscribers,” she said, adding that within two days, operators will take an initiative in this regard.
The junior minister said the telecom division will send a letter to the Finance Ministry to reduce VAT and tax.
