Facebook introduces ‘Town Hall’ for Americans to engage their politicians

Update : 28 Mar 2017, 06:33 PM
Social network giant Facebook has acknowledged the impact it has on US politics and launched a platform to actively engage it. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced “Town Hall” on Facebook with a post on Monday night. He called it an initiative to develop a “civically-engaged community” to help more people engage the political process. In US politics, a Town Hall meeting refers to a locally-elected representative to engage their voter constituents in an open forum. The dialogue has been an integral part of American political tradition. American residents who use the Town Hall feature will find out who are their local political representatives and engage them on Facebook. The feature will bridge the eligible US voter with their congressmen, senators, mayors and other government representatives. The Town Hall feature works only in the United States for now. No plans to expand it to other countries have been announced despite a visible interest from citizens of other countries.
