Sub-registrar develops new app to reduce registry hassle
The app entitled “Bhumi O Registry Sheba” (Land and Registry Service), which can be downloaded free of cost from Google Playstore, is being used by a number of citizens seeking information on different kinds of registration services with the government. The app can provide necessary information about the format of documents, registration process, costs and much more. Information about marriage registry and divorce can also be found on the app. Md Shahjahan Ali, the sub-registrar who came up with the design for the app, said that he was motivated to develop the service to lessen the woes of people who are often tricked by brokers to spend more money than required to obtain registry services. Some government officials have started recommending the app to the public at other sub-registry offices in the district as well. Although compared to urban areas, smartphones are not as widely used in rural areas, users of the app can break free from their dependence on brokers and deed writers by finding accurate information on their phones. A user of the app, Jaynal Abedin from Manik Kaji village of Bhurungamari, said that he felt much better coming to the registrar’s office to register his land knowing all the required information. “Now it would not be so easy for greedy brokers to trick me into paying them,” he said. Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Md Nurul Amin said that A2i is working on the app to ease people's access to land registration related information.
