Ex-Khulna mayor Gazi Shahidullah dies at 81
Veteran politician and former Khulna municipality mayor Gazi Shahidullah died at his residence in Khulna on Monday. He was 81. Shahidullah had breathed his last around 5:20am, said family sources. His namaz-e-janaza was held at Shaheed Hadis Park after the Johr pryars. Later, he was buried at the family graveyard in Gilatala village under Fultala upazila after the Asr prayers. Born on February 1, 1937 in Gilatola, Gazi Shahidullah took part in politics from his student life. He was elected the vice president of Doulatpur BL College Students Union. He was the one who inaugurated the first Shaheed Minar in Khulna on the premises of BL College on February 21, 1956. He also took part in the general election of 1970 with the ticket of National Awami Party (NAP), which was founded by Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani. He was also elected the mayor of Khulna municipality in 1973. This veteran politician joined BNP in 2001.
