Brac’s Skills Training for Advancing Resources (Star) project has received special commendation in the Financial Times/International Finance Corporation Transformational Business Award in London. Star was the only project by non-government organisation to be recognised in the award.
The Financial Times and IFC of the World Bank Group recognise champion organisations every year for undertaking global initiatives and commercially-viable solutions to current development challenges.
The Star project was recognised by the award for its contribution in helping a total of 20,800 apprentices to graduate, among which 95% are now employed after participating in a six-month long training programme under the project.
The project has helped the apprentices to increase their income by eight times and be applied in different countries of the world to develop skills. It also directly addresses some of the most urgent issues in education and skills globally, discussed at the awards conference.
