Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has requested Bangladeshis to avoid Ilish this Pohela Boishakh.
At the end of her press briefing on Tuesday, the premiere asked people to restraint from catching and eating Ilish to help the fish population grow.
She said: “I am requesting all of you not to eat Ilish to celebrate the Bangla New Year. I urge you to have khichuri with vegetables, eggs and eggplants instead. Do not eat Ilish, discourage Ilish fishing.”
The PM made this request on Tuesday during a press briefing post her highly speculated diplomatic visit to India to discuss the Teesta water treaty.
Regarding her visit to India the PM said: “The visit was a success and a total of 35 documents, 24 Memorandums of Understanding and 11 treaties were signed with India through this visit.”
