Sumi’s mother Rokshana Hassan told the Dhaka Tribune: “My daughter and I always try to keep up with Indian fashion, especially during eid. But we couldn’t find the Sharara dress anywhere in Narayangaj. So we had to come to Bashundhara City”. A tour through most shopping markets, including Bashundhara City, New Market and Chadni Chawk, has shown that Sharara is the most popular dress of this year. According to shop owner Hasanul Huq from Bashundhara City, the public demand for the Sharara dress has been high among teenagers after Deepika Padukone wore it in the movie “Bajirao Mastani.” Starting from 3 year olds to teenagers, everyone can buy the Sharara dress. Variants of the dress for those between 3 and 8-years-old are being sold for between Tk1500-4000, while teenagers and adults have to pay between Tk3500-10000 for their ones. However, in Chadni Chawk and in New Market, the dresses are being sold at 20% lower prices. Another popular dress from this year’s collection is the “Hurram” dress, named after actress Hurram from the TV serial Sultan Suleiman. All of my husband’s cousins bought the ‘Hurram’ dress, and I want to buy it too because we all want to match our dresses on eid”. The Hurram dress is being sold in Bashundhara City at Tk2500-15000 for teenagers and at Tk1000-5000 for children. They are priced lower in New Market and Chadni Chawk.
