The primary schools are set to remain closed from October 5-9
Primary schools in Bangladesh get five days of Durga Puja holidays as opposed to existing three days.
Secretary to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Md Akram Al Hossain made the announcement at the secretariat on Wednesday.
As a result, this year, primary schools are set to remain closed from October 5-9.
The primary school teachers were not satisfied with 85 public and private annual holidays, initially given in the academic calendar of secondary and lower secondary levels. They were also unhappy with their 75 annual holidays in the academic calendar of primary level.
“Therefore, the Directorate of Primary Education sent a letter to the ministry recommending an extension of puja holidays for primary schools,” Md Akram said.
The Durga Puja celebration is set to start on October 6. It is expected to end with the immersion of idols on October 8.
