22 changemakers selected for Acumen Fellowship Program in Bangladesh

22 changemaker have been selected for the second cohort of Acumen Fellows in Bangladesh, after a rigorous three-step application process spanning five months. The 2021 cohort is composed of social entrepreneurs leading for-profit and non-profit initiatives, entrapreneurs pushing for change from within institutions, activists challenging the status quo and storytellers changing narratives. The Fellows work across various sectors and represent different geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Each of them demonstrate a strong track record and long-term commitment to end poverty and injustice through their work.

Acumen believes the type of leaders our interconnected and complex world needs, should have character, competence and commitment. The Acumen Fellowship cultivates the leadership capabilities of individuals who are willing to step up, take risks, and invest in the collective future to build a world based on dignity. The cohort was chosen after a 2-day virtual Selection Conference which assessed 58 finalists, shortlisted from 247 initial applications, by 45 local and international panelists from the Acumen community. The intensive year-long program builds the skills, attributes, and values of moral leadership through a mix of in-person and online seminars. The Fellowship is also offered in India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Spain, United Kingdom, Colombia and East and West Africa. Upon completion, the Bangladesh cohort will join Acumen’s global community of more than 700 Fellows. 

The 2021 cohort of Acumen Fellows in Bangladesh:

•    Fahad Ifaz, CEO, iFarmer - Supporting smallholder farmers and partners with agricultural value chain actors to improve knowledge and access to markets.

•    Subrata Kumar Kundu, Founder and CEO, bhalo Social Enterprise - Supporting farmers by connecting smallholders to leading input suppliers, financial institutions and large buyers.

•    Adnin Mourin, Manager, OperationsBangladesh Youth Leadership Center - Offering leadership training programs for students age from English, Bengali, and Madrassa mediums of education to foster inclusion.

•    Sajida Rahman Danny, Chairman, PFDA-Vocational Training Center Trust - Empowering young adults and adults with neurological disorders by providing learning opportunities and life skills training. 

•    Shamsin AhmedCEO & Lead Consultant, Identity Inclusion - Creating an inclusive society by removing stigma around mental health  changing people and institutions. 

•    Mohammad Rezwanur Rahman, Project Coordinator, Inclusive Bangladesh - Improving living standards of youth living in rural & remote areas of Bangladesh through skills training and creating safe spaces.

•    Debojit Saha, Managing Director, Kaizen Research Specialists Ltd - Improving the social sector through consultancy, research and qualitative studies.

•    Maliha Fawzia, Program Director, Teach for Bangladesh - Addressing education inequality by placing high achieving graduates and working professionals as teachers in underserved primary classrooms.

•    Zahedul Amin, Co-Founder and Director, LightCastle Partners - Collaborating with and consulting development partners, private sector enterprises and SMEs to develop their capacity.

•    OvickAlam, Founder, WebAble Bangladesh Limited - Influencing behavioral change by creating communication technology solutions to design digital and field-level interventions.

•    Saiful Huq, Principal, Counter Foto - A Center for Visual Arts - Enabling photographers and visual artists to have a specialization on the issues of human rights and injustice in the society.

•    Dr. Sakia Haque, Founder, Travelettes of Bangladesh and Medical officer, Disease control, Civil surgeon office, Cox's Bazar - Empowering women through travel and self-defense.  

•    Syeda Samara Mortada, Regional Movement Builder, Asia, SheDecides - Fight for Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, and bodily rights through public and private partnerships. 

•    Trishia Nashataran, Founder, Project Designer and Coordinator, Meye Network - Promoting equality and tolerance through storytelling and design thinking across physical and digital spaces.

•    Umama Zillur, Founder and Director, Kotha -Conducting youth-led comprehensive sex education programs with schools to challenge culture of gender-based violence. 

•    Shahriar Rahman, CEO, Creative Conservation Alliance (CCA) - Empowering local people to become stakeholders for the ecological and cultural preservation of Bangladesh’s last remaining wild places.

•    Armin Zaman, Founder and CEO, Romoni Services Limited - Creating platforms for women micro-entrepreneurs in the lifestyle industries in Bangladesh.

•    Sharnalata Roy, President, Sylhet women chamber of commerce and industry - Establishing and popularizing a fashion brand and salon that employs women from marginalized communities.  

•    Achia Khaleda, Founder, Managing Director, Women in Digital - Creating digital platforms to support, promote, and empower women and girls in areas of information and technology. 

•    Md. Saddam Hossain Rony, Senior Operations Coordinator, Drinkwell - Ensuring clean water to low-income communities by providing them with a scalable and reliable technology platform.

•    Eshrat Waris, Principal, Product & Business, ME SOLshare -Powering local economic development by interconnecting standalone solar home systems. 

•    Umme Sharmin Kabir, Founder, Wreetu - Building a healthy menstrual environment for adolescent girls in Bangladesh through workshops, peer learning and low-cost products.
