The Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway is a beacon of hope in mitigating the many problems in the transport system in Bangladesh
Expressways and access-controlled highways make life easier by providing a hassle-free smooth commute experience. It is a challenge to transport passengers and goods on all the highways in a densely populated country like Bangladesh. The existing arrangement of roads with a surplus of turns is considered a major factor causing congestion. The unplanned infrastructure which includes shops, malls, educational institutions and houses constructed right by the highway is another reason for such misery. All of these factors slow traffic and clog up the roads, adding to delays.
To smooth things over, there is a plan to build expressways on some highways of the country. The Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway on the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga route, the first of these planned expressways was inaugurated on March 12 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway, a part of the Asian Highway has also been designed for cars to drive at a speed of 60 kmph. There are eight lanes for smooth vehicular flow.
The expressway has been designed considering the planned increase in traffic in the next 20 years. The construction cost of this project is 11,090crore. To many, the expressway is equal to many beautiful roads in Europe.
