At 9 pm yesterday members of the animal welfare organization Obhoyaronno were seen saving a dog from a dirty swamp located somewhere around the periphery of the Gana Bhaban, Bangladesh prime minister's official residence.
The prime minister's security force weren't concerned, because Obhoyaronno was there on Sheikh Hasina's request.
Apparently, the prime minister saw a dog fall into a roadside ditch and asked the SSF to call Obhoyaronno, the organization's founder Rubaiya Ahmad writes on her Facebook. "It's 9 pm and three of our Obhoyaronno team members are at Gono bhaban, getting ready to jump into a swamp to rescue a dog that's fallen in. How did we come to know about this? Because the Prime Minister saw the dog fall and asked SSF to contact us," Rubaiya's Facebook post said.
She also posted video clips showing rescuers going down into a deep ditch with dirty sewage water and saving the dog. A final clip showed the dog sitting peacefully in a shelter made for rescued animals by Obhoyaronno.
The organization's founder also lamented the need to constantly pursue policy makers. "My question is, how is animal welfare still not a priority here? Why do we still spend half of our time chasing policy makers??" she wrote.
