During this lockdown, and the crisis that we’re facing – Covid-19, more commonly known at the Coronavius, the daily wage earners are among those who have been suffering the most in the country.
AIM Initiative Foundation, a non-profit, volunteering organization located in Dhaka is working in this emergency situation to distribute food items to the low-income daily wage earners, as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to doctors and medical staffs in a number of hospitals across the city.
The foundation has ben distributing food packages among the low-income communities of Banasree, Rampura and Meradiya area of Dhaka city, especially to the families of students studying at the AIM school Meradiya, which covers around 120 families in that area. 101 students studying at the AIM school also received face masks, hand soaps, and detergent powders. Each food package contains 10 kilograms of rice, 3 kilograms of potatoes, 2 kilograms of pulses, 1 kilogram of onion, 1 litre of oil, 1 kilogram of salt, 1 kilogram of puffed rice, 1 kilogram of sugar, detergent powder and two hand washing soaps.
In addition to that, 95 sets of PPE have been distributed to various hospitals across the city for the frontline working doctors and medical staffs.
Founder and chairman of AIM Initiative Foundation, Md Sayed mentioned in a conversation that there are several challenges which they had to face during this food distribution. “Man power for the distribution was an initial challenge, and then people making a huge gathering while distribution was a serious issue as that may spread the virus among these people,” he said. Treasurer of the organization, Nagib Ahmed also reflects that choosing 100 families among 2,000 was a real moral dilemma. He went on to inform that they had to speak with the families and neighbours to decide which families are truly in need. Volunteers from different sectors, including education, health and environment, as well as media and publication, are working to make this possible.
This distribution has been possible due to the generosity of the warm-hearted people in the community who are donating to this cause. Donations are mainly collected through Bkash and PayPal, along with the well-wishers of the organization.
