PFDA - Vocational Training Center Trust celebrates its 5th anniversary and talks about SDG goals

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of PFDA - Vocational Training Center Trust  and the SDG goals, an event took place at the Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon on Tuesday evening. 

Abul Kalam Azad, Coordinator of SDGs at the Prime Minister's Office, along with Munir M Mirali of the Aghankhan Development Foundation; Zuena Aziz, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare and  UNDP Country Representative, Sudipta Mukherjee, who delivered the keynote address, were present during the event. 

At the event, Abul Kalam Azad elaborated on the many steps the Bangladesh government has taken to assist people with disabilities. Starting with providing education, allowances and jobs, other programs are also being conducted by the government to ensure a better future with the people with disabilities. Abul Kalam talked to Ministry of Social Welfare to work on people with disabilities. He said: “We should erase the word ‘disability’ from the society and with that we can change our mindsets towards them.” Describing Kahlil Gibran's famous quote, he said: “These children are our responsibility given to us by the Almighty.” 

Zuena Aziz appreciates PFDA - Vocational Training Center Trust’s initiative to recruit people with disabilities. She is hopeful that if the government and non-government organization comes forward to provide more assistance, then there raises more chances to solve the issue. She also addressed the fact that even though people with disabilities get employed, they are discriminated with poor wages, which is not fair. 

Munir M Mirali of Aghankhan Development Foundation said that PFDA - Vocational Training Center Trust is a real concern for those with disabilities and their parents and guardians. To address this concern, he expressed interest in working together with PFDA - Vocational Training Center Trust.

The program came to an end with Rabindranath Tagore's famous poem “Radiance of Love” from Chandalika.

PFDA-Vocational Training Center Trust started its journey on the 21st. It works to recruit people with disabilities into life-long education, technical skills development training and jobs. PFDA-Vocational Training Center Trust is the first institution in the country to recruit people with disabilities in technical skills development training and jobs. Till date, the company has hired four persons with disabilities.

The PFDA-Vocational Training Center Trust started its journey on 2014. To date, the company has hired 163 people with disabilities.
