Bangladeshi development leader chosen as Global Ambassador for UN Disaster Risk Reduction

Shaila Shahid to share stage with leaders in disaster risk reduction 

Bangladeshi development sector professional Shaila Shahid has been chosen as the Global Ambassador of Civil Society Organization (CSO) and United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM). She is scheduled to speak in the official welcome session of the 6th Global Platform on DRR 2019 in Geneva on May 15. 

"For me, it is an immense honour to represent global CSOs and Bangladesh," said Shahid, who is Senior Advisor for Climate Change, DRR and Gender at International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD). 

At the DRR conference in Geneva, Shahid will share stage with leaders of risk reduction from across the globe. The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is a biennial multi-stakeholder forum established by the UN General Assembly to review progress, share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk.

Shaila Shahid has been working in the areas of action research, capacity building of different stakeholders, strategic communications, and policy advocacy level for over 15 years. She has recently won Mary Fran Mayer DRR award globally, as the winner of 2019.
