Dhaka Tribune caught up with the creator of Durjoy
‘Durjoy’ is an action figure that is being dubbed as the ‘first comic collectible production in Bangladesh.’
A muscular figure, with clothes and muscle strands curved out in meticculous detail, ‘Durjoy’ looks more realistic than most exaggerated superhero comic book figures.
Dhaka Tribune caught up with the creator of this product Nazmul Hoque to know more.
Tell us about your background for toy making.
I consider myself as a 3D character artist. My habit is to find new media to express my thoughts. In Bangladesh, we don’t have such factory or production company, rather, we depend on imported toys and action figures.
We have a strong and rich comic culture with so many heroes, but they are not in collectible forms. All of this inspired me to study more and encouraged me to develop a production pipeline using new cutting edge technology.
With my seven years of research and my team I have now successfully launched for the first time in Bangladesh, Durjoy collectibles as the first collectible commercially produced by LiveAxis.
Do you consider toy making your passion or profession?
As an artist of Charukola Institute of Chittagong University, I always dreamt for a profession that I am passionate about. Yes, in Bangladesh, passion can’t be a profession. But I want to break the wall which is why I chose 3D modelling as my profession.
Can you tell us a little bit about your new and upcoming action figures?
Durjoy Collectibles is a four-inch figure based on Dhaka Comic, Durjoy.
You can call this the first-ever collectible in Bangladesh. Durjoy is made of high-quality polystone material, highly detailed and expertly painted, limited to 100 pieces.
We are selling this on a pre-order basis and we got a huge response from people. Ahsan Habib was present in the box opening ceremony on February 8 at the Dhaka Comics stall in the Ekushey book fair.
We have already built a Facebook community named We R Makers, where a branch of artists participate in monthly contests of character design challenge. We give the winner a 3D toy of their own character. In future we will work with those characters. .
What are the platforms you use to sell your product?
For now' we sell our product through Liveaxis Facebook page. Later, we will use an e-commerce site of our own (liveaxishome.com). We hope to open shops on Etsy and Ebay in the near future.
