“Paatshala,” the feature film that depicts the story of a street child Manik, will be released today at Star Cineplex and Blockbuster Cinema. The film was directed by Faisal Roddy and Asif Islam.

“Paatshala” has already been shown at big film festivals of Germany, Canada and India, and it has been critically acclaimed, following those screenings.

The film touches upon the themes of friendship, expectations, and realizing one’s dreams. The 10 year old Manik had to leave school due to harsh realities of life. He migrates to Dhaka and takes up work in a car workshop. In spite of working extremely hard for inhuman hours, Manik never lets go off his dream of going to school.

Another child, Chumki, decides to help Manik in his quest for education and teaches him a magic spell “Bos Roneggabi Lakhe.” How that spelling helps him in his quest is the premise of the film.

According to a press statement from the directors, “Paatshala” was made to raise awareness about the countless children of Bangladesh, who do not get to go to school. The main slogan of the film is “Shob Maniker jonno school chai,” which translates to “We want schools for all Maniks.”

The film, produced by Redmark Productions, will star child artiste Habib Arinda as Manik and Ima Akter Kotha as Chumki. Other principal characters will be portrayed by Hussain Razu, Farhana Mithu, Rumi Huda, Gazi Faruque, Towfiqul Emon and Amirul Islam.

The title sponsor for “Paatshala” is Cityscape, and media partners are Duronto TV and ABC Radio. The co-producer and digital partner for the film is BongoBD.

Many celebrities of Bangladesh film industry showed their support for the slogan of the film | Facebook
