Two Bengals pay tribute to Ayub Bachchu in Kolkata

Musicians and bands from both West Bengal and Bangladesh paid homage to legendary Bangladeshi rockstar Ayub Bachchu at Patuli Lokosanskriti Mela Ground in Kolkata, West Bengal, on Saturday, with a tribute concert titled “Ayub Bachchur Shorone Dui Banglar Rockbaji.” The whole ground was full to the brim by Bachchu fans of all ages who came to witness the tribute event. The concert was organized by Cafe Kabira, a popular cafe in Kolkata.

Bangladeshi musicians including, Maqsood Haque of  band Maqsood ‘O’ Dhaka, Sina Hasan of Bangla Five, George Lincoln D'Costa from the band Artcell, singer Mehreen, Ayub Bachchu’s first guitar teacher Jacob Dayas, artistes Subrata Barua Rony and Imran Hossain, performed at the event.

Indian musicians Pradip Chattopadhyay Bula, and Bapi, from the band Moheener Ghoraguli, Anindya from band Sohor, singer Avijit Burman, Soumitra Roy from the band Bhumi, Upal fof band Chandrabindu, popular singer Shilajit Majumder, Gaurav Chattopadhyay Gabu from band Lakkhichhara, the band Bramhakhapa, Deb Chowdhury, and Sidhu of Cactus, all performed at the concert.

Bachchu was the founder member, lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of popular Bangladeshi band, Love Runs Blind, commonly known as LRB.

Suffering a coronary attack at his own residence, Ayub Bachchu passed away on the morning of October 18 at the age of 60. He was taken to Square Hospital when his family members found him unconscious, where doctors pronounced him dead around 9:55am. He had just returned from a concert in Rangpur.

Thousands of people from all walks of life thronged the Central Shaheed Minar premises on October 19 to bid farewell to the legendary rockstar. His body was buried next to his mother’s grave in Chittagong.
