The screening of Mustafizur Rahman Manik’s feature film “Jannat,” starring Mahiya Mahi and Symon Sadik, was stalled in Satkhira’s Sangeeta cinema hall today (Friday, September 14) being accused of hurting religious sentiments.

The news was confirmed by Sangeeta cinema hall Supervisor Rasel. He said: “The film was scheduled to start screening in this theatre from today (Friday). But local authorities told us to stop the film’s screening as it was accused to be hurting religious sentiments. So, not a single show was screened today. We had to pull out everything. Instead, we are running the film ‘Sultan’ in its place.”

The local authorities recently took the decision after a procession was taken out by local Muslims, criticizing the film’s name “Jannat,” its poster and its alleged anti-Islamic messages. Then they ordered for the posters and banners to be taken off of the theatre and stop its screening.

Satkhira Police Super Sajjadur Rahman said: “Cinema is a very important aspect of human entertainment but we should also be very vigilant about films which might be the reason behind the deterioration of law and order.”

“Few local religious Muslims and Imams have complained that the film ‘Jannat’ might hurt religious sentiments and cause chaos and we had past incidents here due to religious issues. So, the screening was stalled after such complaints.”

The poster was designed by Sajjad Sayem who is well known in the industry for making unique film posters.

Ali Raz, Misha Shawdagar, Shimul Khan and many others are seen in other roles in the film. Produced by SS Multimedia, the film’s story was written by Sudipta Sayeed Khan while the screenplay was written by Asad Zaman.
