Each year, Bangladeshi television channels and digital content platforms release special dramas, telefilms, and short films on the occasion of Eid holidays. This year, we saw a lot of hype around some television and online content, throughout the festival vacation period, even till now. We have compiled a list of the most talked about TV or online dramas focused on public opinion on social media. Dhaka Tribune Showtime’s Siam Raihan brings you the first part of this list to review three Eid dramas released on different TV channels and online platforms this Eid-ul-Azha
The most talked about Eid drama this Eid-ul-Azha was “Ayesha” directed by popular filmmaker and TV director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. This was one of the telefilms from the “BhaiBrother Express” series produced by Channel i this Eid and also marked the return of Farooki in the TV arena. The telefilm starring Tisha & Chanchal Chowdhury created a lot of buzz on social media platforms. The story of the telefilm is based on Anisul Hoque’s 70’s novel “Ayesha Mongol” which depicts the story of a 1977 air force coupe in Dhaka.
Tisha plays the lead role of Ayesha in the telefilm where Chanchal plays the role of his military corporal husband Jaynal. The gripping storyline of the telefilm depicts the story of Jaynal’s sudden disappearance and Ayesha’s search for her missing husband after the coupe. The beautifully shot and edited visuals of the drama keeps us guessing about what will be the fate of Ayesha and her newly wed husband. The drama was produced by Channel i and available on their official YouTube channel.
Another talked about television drama was Mabrur Rashid Bannah’s “Lalai” which depicts a rural story of struggle of a poor family and their beloved animal in the time of financial crisis. Hundreds of posts on Facebook recommended the 39-minute-long drama as “a must watch.” The emotional storyline of the drama starts off with Afran Nisho, who plays the role of Kalu, being beaten up by couple of villagers and accused of stealing their cow bought for Eid-ul-Azha sacrifice. The whole drama seemed to be a modern and Bangladeshi take on Sharad Chandra Chattopadhyay’s famous short story “Mahesh.” Afran Nisho’s brilliant acting is another major feature of the hyped drama. “Lalai” also features popular TV actor Tanjin Tisha alongside Nisho. The drama was written by Anisur Rahman while Bannah written the screenplay. “Lalai,” produced by Dhruba Entertainment was released on their own official YouTube channel Dhruba TV on August 24.
Pata Jhorar Din
Redoan Rony’s “Pata Jhorar Din” was another popular title from Channel i’s “BhaiBrother Express” series this Eid-ul-Azha. This drama featuring Ishita, Hasan Imam, Moushumi deals with another common and vital social issue which is deteriorating health conditions of the elderly. The drama tells a touching storyline of a old man suffering from memory loss and gets lost in Dhaka. He loses his phone and could not get back to his own home. The drama beautifully portrayed how old age and deteriorating health of our senior citizens create confusion and difficulties among their family members’ lives. Another important event of the drama was the return of celebrated Bangladeshi actor, dancer and singer Rumana Rashid Ishita who had returned to acting after a hiatus of four years. “Pata Jhorar Din” was released on the fourth day of Eid-ul-Azha 2018 and currently available on Channel i’s official YouTube channel.
One of the most popular and talked about Eid drama was Bioscope web thriller “Koli 2.0” starring Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Irfan Sazzad, and Pijush Bandyopadhyay in lead roles. Tisha plays a rough and tough action heroine in this gangster thriller drama directed by Abrar Atahar. “Koli 2.0” boasts of complete international grade production quality in every frame. The whole storyline starts with a girl named Koli being drugged at party in a nightclub. The story revolves around why everyone is looking for her. The plot and development of the story is interesting and the top notch cinematography, background scoring and production quality makes it more entertaining. The hyped web thriller was released on the official streaming site of Bioscope, this Eid-ul-Azha.
