The play “Jobor Ajob Bhalobasha,” an adaptation of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s play “The Beer,” will be staged on Sunday at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on 7pm. Another exhibition of the same show will take place on Monday at the Experimental Theatre of Shilpakala Academy.
The three-character play, directed by Saif Sumon, was translated from the original by Mobarok Hossain Khan.
Prangone Mor drama group’s Ramiz Raju, Natya Kendro’s Sangeeta Chowdhury and Theatre Art Unit’s Saif Sumon will play the three parts.
Saif Sumon, the director and lead actor of the play, recently said in a statement: “We are staging the play focusing on the Eid-ul-Adha festivities. But we could not stage it right after Eid as the Shilpakala Academy was closed due to Eid holidays. So we are staging the play on August 26 and 27.
“Televisions run a week long special programs during Eid, the newspapers and magazines release special issues, new films get released in the theatres across the country. We want to make a point that Eid festivities can happen around the stage too. We think a drama festival should be held each Eid. Keeping that intention in mind we staged ‘Jobor Ajob Bhalobasha’ during the previous Eid-ul-Fitr holidays,” added the director.
He also said: “It is an entertaining drama. Hopefully the audience will enjoy an entertaining evening during the Eid festivities.”
