We picked some of the most striking and awe inspiring photographs, taken on the first day of Ratha Yatra

Ratha Yatra, the chariot festival of Sri Jagannath Dev and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community in Bangladesh, began on Saturday, July 14, amid due religious fervor and enthusiasm.

The festival will conclude with Ulto Ratha Yatra (reverse journey of the chariot) on July 21.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON) is observing a nine-day program in Dhaka to mark the occasion.

The ISKON program at Swamibag in Dhaka started with holding of Agnihotra Jagna, seeking divine blessings for world peace and people's welfare.

To celebrate the festival, a discussion was organized on ISKON Temple premises on Saturday noon, followed by a colourful procession which was brought out from Swamibagh

Devotees, dressed as Sri Jagannath Dev, his brother Sri Balaram and sister Srimati Subhadra, rode on three large and well decorated Rathas (chariots) in the procession.

The Rathjatra Festival is also being celebrated at Ramseeta Mandir on Joikali Mandir Road, at Shankharibazar and Jagannath Jeo Mandir at Tantibazar in old city and areas across the country.

We picked some of the most striking and awe inspiring photographs, taken on the first day of Ratha Yatra, to feature in this photo gallery.
