On April 5, the Information Ministry announced the names of the National Film Award recipients for the year 2016 in 26 categories for outstanding contributions to the industry
The National Film Awards 2016 will be distributed during a gala function at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to hand over the awards, the highest recognition for contributions to the film industry, according to a statement by the ministry of information.
On April 5, the Information Ministry announced the names of the National Film Award recipients for the year 2016 in 26 categories for outstanding contributions to the industry.
Farida Akhter, better known by her screen name Babita, and Akbar Hossain Pathan, also better known by his screen name Faruq, have jointly been awarded the lifetime awards.
In the major categories, Tauquir Ahmed’s “Oggyatonama” has been awarded as the best film, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury as the best director for his film “Aynabaji,” Suchinta Chowdhury Chanchal better known as Chanchal Chowdhury as the best actor for his role in “Aynabaji”, and the best actress award went to Afroza Imroz Tisha and Kushum Chowdhury jointly for their films “Ostitto” and “Shonkhochil” respectively.
Fazlur Rahman Babu, who won the prize for best actor in a supporting role for his role in “Meyeti Akhon Kothay Jabe” told Showtime: “I play a boatman in this film who saves a girl from her captor, knowing full well that he’ll have to face the wrath of the kidnapper. Everyone in the village is afraid of this criminal, but my character puts his morals first.”
This is the second time the actor has won a National Film Award.
