The 85th birthday of eminent journalist, cultural activist, Language Movement veteran and head of news at Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra Kamal Lohani was celebrated in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Different cultural and social organizations and renowned personalities, including top government officials, greeted Kamal Lohani at a program held on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organized the event titled “Pochashite Kamal Lohani” at its premises.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon and noted lawyer barrister M Amir-Ul Islam greeted him among others at the function.
The event hosted a photo exhibition with 85 photos reflecting the diverse career and life of the renowned journalist.
The event also hosted a biographical documentary and a remembrance session with 'Poter Gaan' and a cultural program.
Kamal Lohani, born on June 26, 1934, was a journalist and journalist union activist for more than six decades. He dedicated his life to mass cultural movement through Chhayanaut, Kranti Shilpo Goshti, Gonoshilpi Sangstha and Udichi Shilpogoshthi and till this day he is an active cultural activist.
He was jailed and tortured several times for his political activism from the Language Movement to the Liberation War and more.
In his long career he also worked as a commentator, orator, anchor, and dancer.
The revolutionary activist and Marxist wrote 12 books and two of them are poetry.
Kamal Lohani and his wife Dipti Lohani has two daughters and a son, who are also involved in journalism and cultural activism.
