Ekushey Padak winning lyricist, composer and music director Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul has recuperated well after two stents have been inserted in his heart. He has returned home on Tuesday afternoon from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases & Hospital (NICDH), as informed by the director of the hospital Professor Afzalur Rahman.
Among eight blockages, two have been stented on Saturday. He was under observation for the next two days after the procedure. Previously it was reported that he will go through a heart bypass surgery but the doctors decided against it after re-checking his condition.
The NICDH director had this to say about Bulbul: “Two stents have been inserted in Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul’s heart. There were complications at first. The arteries were in severe condition. The stenting was done through a special procedure. He is doing well overall. He will be able to function normally, but he needs to be careful, as we need to keep the rest of the blockages in his arteries under observation.”
Bulbul’s only son Samir Imtiaz said: “My father was admitted in NICDH last Thursday. After necessary precautions, stents were put in his heart.”
Imtiaz is a freedom fighter, who has touched the hearts of millions in the country by giving an emotional status update about his health condition on May 16. The honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself has taken responsibility for his medical expenses.
