Revolutionary maestro Kazi Narul Islam blazed the trails of Bangla literature, poetry and music with his timeless works of art. He fearlessly rebelled against oppression and fascism through his creations. To mark his 119th birthday on Friday, TV channels in Bangladesh are telecasting small screen adaptations of Nazrul’s writings.
RTV will air “Boner Papia” at 8pm Friday based on Nazrul’s short story by the same title. Chanchal Chowdhury and Sanjida Preeti play the central characters in this period drama, which will be available at YouTube.com/RtvDrama shortly after the telecast.
Co-directed by Shubhro Khan and Sraboni Ferdous, the story revolves around a childless couple Mitra (Chanchal) and Romola (Preeti). The pair finds a wounded bird on a field during a night stroll. Soon after they bring the bird home, it starts to talk suggesting that it belonged to someone else.
Shubhro told Showtime: “Romela treats the bird like her child, and it fills a void inside her. This makes Mitra feel neglected. He conspires to separate the two.”
This is Chanchal’s first time acting in any Nazrul inspired drama.
Several other dramas and telefilms will be aired to mark Nazrul Jayanti.
