No unvaccinated school and college students, aged between 12 and 18, will be allowed to attend in-person classes after January 15, the authorities have said.

A circular issued by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Sunday said that the government targets to complete vaccination for this age group by mid-January.

The directorate also instructed teachers of respective institutions to accompany students to vaccine centers on the fixed dates.

Earlier in the day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said that the government did not want to shut down educational institutions right now as it would not be fruitful for the students.

On January 6, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul told reporters that the government was trying to bring all children under the coverage of vaccination.

Bangladesh started inoculating school students, aged between 12 and 17, last year. The authorities plan to expand the drive nationwide soon.
