‘We will bring back the glory of Dhanmondi’

Dhanmondi Society apex body holds first meeting, promises better living

The Dhanmondi Society's Executive Committee on Monday promised to create new playgrounds, develop existing parks, plant trees, and ensure the five basic rights to the needy people in their area.

Dhanmondi Society President Abu Mohammad Sabur made the announcement at a press conference in the society’s introductory program, held at Spicy Ramna Restaurant in Dhanmondi.

He said: “The first thing that we have to do is to have an open discussion. We have formed an apolitical forum which will implement activities to help improve the living standards of Dhanmondi.”

Sabur added that the voluntary body had been formed to ensure quality living in this area while keeping the social obligations in mind.

General Secretary Dr Mosaddek Habib said: “We will actively participate in bringing about social discipline and overall welfare, and organize various sports events considering the important aspects of society, culture and safety of life and livelihood.”

He hoped that the local MP, the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the local councilor would co-operate with the organization in various ways.

The committee members identified traffic congestion as a daily menace in Dhanmondi, which they aim to address as soon as possible in order to make Dhanmondi a risk-free zone for all.
