Banks, insurances report increased Q2 earnings

In separate filings with Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday, Brac Bank, Bank Asia, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Southeast Bank, Prime Insurance, Agrani Insurance and Paramount Insurance reported significant deviation in their Q2 earnings

Banks and insurances have reported an increase in their Q2 (April-June) earnings. 

In separate filings with Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday, Brac Bank, Bank Asia, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Southeast Bank, Prime Insurance, Agrani Insurance and Paramount Insurance reported significant deviation in their Q2 earnings. 

Among the banks, Brac Bank reported the highest deviation. It said that its consolidated earnings per share (EPS) was Tk0.96 for April-June of 2021, a massive 357.14% increase from Tk0.21 for the same period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, Bank Asia reported a 233.33% increase. The bank said that its consolidated EPS was Tk0.70 for April-June 2021 as against Tk0.21 for the same period of the previous year.

Al-Arafah Islami Bank’s Q2 earnings rose by 164.7%. The bank said its consolidated EPS was Tk0.90 for April-June 2021 as against Tk0.34 for the same period of 2020.

An increase in net interest income, as well as operating income, as compared to the previous period increased Southeast Bank’s Q2 earnings by 112.59%. The bank said that its consolidated EPS was Tk1.34 for April-June 2021 as against Tk0.63 for April-June 2020.

Insurances

Paramount Insurance Company reported the maximum amount of increase in a year on Monday, with a massive 370.27% rise in its Q2 earnings. 

In its DSE filing, the company said that its EPS was Tk1.74 for April-June 2021, as against Tk0.37 for the same period of the previous year.

Agrani Insurance’s Q2 earnings rose by 250%. The company said that its EPS was Tk0.49 for April-June 2021 as against Tk0.14 for the same period of 2020.

Meanwhile, Prime Insurance witnessed a 176.92% increase in its earnings, which also brought its earnings from the negative territory. 

In the DSE filing, the company said that its EPS was Tk0.20 for April-June 2021 as against Tk0.26 in the negative for the same period of 2020.
